State-wide consultation and engagement to develop strategic recommendations for the NSW Community Pharmacy Palliative Care Initiative for the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission

WHAT WE DELIVERED

The NSW Community Pharmacy Palliative Care Initiative is a two-year project aimed at enhancing palliative care services within NSW through supporting the role of community pharmacy in improving medication management for people with palliative care needs. The NSW Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC) is leading this initiative on behalf of the NSW Government.

ZEST assisted CEC in undertaking state-wide consultation and engagement with representatives across the NSW health, community pharmacy and palliative care sectors. Consultations delivered a shared understanding of the current issues and priorities for community pharmacy involvement in palliative care, to inform the CEC initiative.

OUTCOMES

• Engagement with over 100 stakeholders across the sector through key informant interviews, two state-wide workshops, and two telephone focus groups with regional and rural participants.
• Development of strategic priorities and recommendations to address and improve medication management for people with palliative care needs in NSW.
